"Italy As It Is" - "Italy Seen From Far Away"
A virtual Twinning between Elementary and Junior High Schools of Italy and abroad
The choice of the schools abroad is made based on the migratory flows of every single Town that supports the historical search of the emigrants of the past century.
In spite of the fact that Italy is rich of history, culture and tradition, the image shown by that the mass media of the Italians is not of the very best. Unfortunately the world sees us through lends filtered by interests dictated by the audience or by the number of newspapers sold. Those are the reasons that have motivated us to create a Twinning between elementary and junior high schools of Italy and abroad. Nobody better that the children and teenagers can describe to their own fellow-country-men how Italy is actually. Their spontaneity allows them to have a clear vision of their home town without external interferences.
The project consists in collecting works from the students that describe their country through: drawings, poetries, recipes, old tales, photos etc.. All the students' works will then be offered to the twinned class during an special event.
The students of the twinned class abroad will describe the twinned town as they see it from abroad and by the stories of their relatives or the social experiences. All their works have to follow the same criteria of the Italian ones and they will be offered to the Italian classes also during a special event.
All the students' works will be posted on this website so that they can become patrimony of everybody.
They will enrich with information on Italy the database created for the search of one's own roots by the descendants of the emigrants of the past century.
The project has been created in the respect of the "National Standards" for the teaching of the foreign language of some English speaking countries:
Communication - Cultures - -Connections - Comparison - Community
For the Italian schools:
- the project offers the advantage to support a closer communication facilitate the initiating of a dialogue drawn near between the young people putting to comparison the various cultures, moreover will create a first step towards other opportunities of cultural exchanges.
For the foreign schools:
- The plan offers to the descendants of the Italians the opportunity to upgrade the spirit of belongings and the pride of to be Italian, while for the boys not of Italian origin the possibility to discover a perhaps various world from the common places and stereotypes to you. Teaching will have cues and reasonings for plans you drained to us beyond to additional didactic material. While the Italian community will feel itself less far from the own earth.
